almost anywhere
Desolate and surrounded by forest pretty much fits the bill for almost anywhere in coastal Alaska outside of the true arctic regions, but for the huge, "cathedral forest" look you have to go for the rainforest of SE
There's stretches of the AlCan highway through Canada where you see nothing but the one road you're on and endless trees for....well, it seems like an endless time. It's like a one-land tunnel through the forest for hundreds and hundreds of miles....all seemingly identical.
