I have to admit I use Anchorage every 2 weeks to fly out of for work...or to land in from work. That is all. Except for Tempura Kitchen to eat...and a gas staion on Old Seward to fuel up so I can get the heck outa there. Ok I had a beer there last month.

Hate to drag this one out of it's well deserved grave, BUT... I can't speak for Floyd but I don't consider the Kenai pensinsula part of Anc. Just Anchorage and associated suburby areas like Wasilla and Palmer.

Yeah there are two good mountain passes and a whole bunch of winding corners to my house. But the peninsula just lies right across the arm from Anchorage. I'd love to see the rail system run down our way...although for what I don't know. And I think even a bridge would be nice. It would eliminate some traffic in the summer. Not sure it could withstand the ice in winter or a really good earthquake tho. They should do the other one for the valley first.

Please ignore what others might claim I think. I obviously have no problem stating my case. Others, who can't seem to get their own ideas out correctly, just don't do well at claiming to know what I think.

I agree that Wasilla and Palmer fit the bedroom description, and other parts of the Mat-Su are merely the northern suburb of Anchorage. Kenai et al are distinctly different.

Perhaps I should point out that I lived on the Richardson Highway south of Fairbanks for two decades, and have an exceedingly good idea what the significance of proximity to an urban center is for a highway community.

No one's claiming that you "think" anything, Floyd. I'm just stating what I think. Having lived in the Mat-Su, I simply don't agree that places like Talkeetna and Trapper Creek are "merely" suburbs of Anchorage. Perhaps our definitions are different... whatever; the world won't be ending any time soon because of it. To me a suburb is within daily commutable distance from the urban center it's supposedly a suburb of, as well as a place that wouldn't have much existence at all if it weren't for the urban center. To me, the adjective "merely" means "nothing more than". I don't think that either one of those are true concerning the majority of the Mat-Su but hey...I only lived there.

Xa'at---you really should visit Talkeetna--you would love it! And it would love you.

The electronic age also makes it easier for representatives to ignore their constituents once they get into office. How many e-mails from your representatives have you received answering your concerns? Who answers the telephone when you call your representative? (Hint: It isn't your representative.) How many of your phone calls have ever been returned?

If you show up and personally ask your representative a question, it would be very difficult for them not to respond in some manner. Unfortunately, the electronic age is not the panacea people think it is when it comes to holding representatives accountable.
I've always personally known my state representatives because of the small size of the communities I've lived in. In a place with a larger population, such as where you live, that wouldn't always be the case. If a state rep. is ignoring the people that he/she is supposed to represent, then yes, there's a big problem. In that case, getting their attention may entail sending a certified letter to their home address during the time period when the legislature is out of session. And then write a letter to the editor if you're still ignored.

I, and the article I quoted, referred to what Glitch said. We really weren't talking about you.

And maybe when you've seen more of Alaska than that your perspective would be broader? It's a great place, especially far off the highway system.

Excuse me? I've seen a good deal of the state, and plenty of parts that were off the highway system. In fact, most of my time in Alaska is spent "off the highway system". But then, my comment about Talkeetna wasn't really directed at you. I do think that Xa'at would love it there.

You might want to get your facts straight about someone before you start going on about your perception of what their...perspective is.

But I'll be happy to tell you a little something about my "perspective", Floyd...just for clarification purposes, of course.

We all know that the North is huge. I've seen a lot of it; probably more than most residents have. And there's a lot I haven't seen. And because of that I'd never presume to tell someone who had more than a passing familiarity with a certain area that I was somehow "right" in their assessment of the area and that they were wrong. We get enough of that from the -48ers coming to this forum and informing us what we are and are not without Alaskans doing it to one another.

If you want to consider the entire Mat-Su "merely" a suburb of Anchorage, be my guest. My opinion is different. As stated previously, I've actually lived there.

Also, be my guest if you want to continue this silly conversation. It isn't going to change my opinion anymore than I would change your opinion if I were to start spouting off about Barrow.

But do us both--especially yourself--a favor here. If you want to argue with me, at least do so with the truth.

Because this statement is pretty far from it. Have a nice night, now.

That is exactly what you did do though...
