Sorry to hear that. They need to get that lower 48 mentality out of their systems.

However, they might as well be on another planet. As I stopped in the gas station to pay for my gas and food for the road, I desperately wanted to ask the cashier what is the draw to such a place? Why would someone want to live in a place like Beaver Creek (pop. 100)? I didn't ask because I'm not rude. But the question was a burning one.
By the way, I was in Juneau as well on that trip. It could easily qualify as Alaska's best kept secret. It's probably the only place outside the Anchorage-MatSu area I could see myself living.

This is probably my main reason for living around here. Plus I like winters with snow, not just the brown ugly ground I experienced in Indiana. I wish Anchorage had a few more offering in terms of entertainment and employment diversity but I hope that comes with time.

Much, much better, although going out to the tidepools was probably a bad idea.
Right this second I'm a little more worried about my eyes! I woke up this morning and everything's kinda blurry, even with my glasses. One thing after another, right?

have you ever had yourself checked for diabetes? I know that is one thing that can cause that. Not being nosey, just trying to be helpful because that is something of concern. Good luck.

Well, not recently, but I know I don't have type I because that is something that would have showed up when I was much younger. I eat well and am in good shape, so I don't think type II is a worry quite yet. More likely I've just spent too much time reading books in dim light and studying until the late hours of the night. Might have to get stronger glasses!
Thanks for the concern, though.

better yet...
Better yet, lets rotate the state capital every year between various inaccessible bush towns throughout the state. Why let them get all warm and comfy in one spot? AND lets always hold the legislative session in the dead of winter. At least that way they can do something constructive the rest of the year.
So whadda ya think? Should we call it the "fish camp" legislature? I'll bet they could get everything done in a couple of weeks that way.

They can disguise the reasons for the capital move all they want: more visiblity, economic feasiblity, inaccessability...blah blah. Too bad. They knew the deal when they signed on for the job. You don't cry foul midstream. This is about power. I think it's good that the financial center of the state is in S Central, the academic center in Fairbanks, and the legislature in SE. Someone described it as the tripod effect. Once you start sucking up those bedrocks into one sinkhole, trouble starts.
