It would be easier to get dedicated winter studded tires IMO. Depending upon your budget Firestone Winterforce do a good job per reports. If you have do ray me go with the Nokian studded.

Do you need to swap out studded tires after the snow / ice melt in summer? Or can they be used year round?

Get on Craigslist and get a second set of rims, one for summer/all seasons and the other for Studs. Can't go wrong.

In all my time in snow areas, Ak, WVa, NCa etc, I have never used studs or chains. Do have to carry them in NCa but haven't used them and I drive a Kia Rio Cinco down here. I don't go to Wa when I have to use chains. I just wait a day or two since I don't know how to put them on. I just carry them because HP says you have to to cross the passes during winter. I have never been stuck in Anc. I just have good all weather tires on all my vehicles, of course I've only had 4 wheel drive vehicles since the late 80s, except for the Kia in NCa. Before that I had a small front wheel drive, in Anc, and never got stuck.

First trip up was a late Sept trip from SoCal and we did use chains, in Canada to Anc. Dumb ex put the on wrong
, I didn't know they only went on one way or did he just put them on weird?
, anyway they beat the fenders of my NEW car to death.
IF you get chains make sure you know how to put them on.
