LOL -- ummm, much safer just to get one of those jumbo alcohol (-60F) or nitrogen (-70F) thermometers and find a weather program that lets you record temperature data manually

Supposedly, there's a spirit LiG (liquid in glass) thermometer that will read down to -200C... but I have no idea what liquid that uses or where to get it (or if the avg Joe is even allowed to possess it).

That takes a bit of effort, you have to smash the weather rock into dust, then take it to be analyzed at a University that specializes in Geology, they can determine just what the rocks history was and they can tell you all about it's results. Which you can get emailed to you...

Downside is that you have to go find another Weather Rock that will suit your needs

History trees are much easier, you just cut them down, count the rings and look for! darker ones for when the last forest fire was through your area, if the burnt rings run in cycles, and they are showing back up soon.... get a lot of insurance!

If the rings are small, thin and light, then that was a really cold winter and you now have a supply of firewood!

Found this photo the other day searching for "arctic weather stations", thought it showed some of the condition weather station gear has to face in the interior
