I'm going to relocate to soldotna ak in may. I'm excited and fearful at the sams time. I'm walking away from my life for a better chance at lifs for my grandbabies. I want them raised where they can learn strong morals and integrity. Phoenix az is a terribleplace for children. God bless this move and keep us safe.

Is there a reason you picked Soldotna? Or Alaska for that matter? There's a whole lot between here and Phoenix. And there are plenty of people with poor morals in AK, for that matter. I don't think it's a bad place to raise kids by any means, but I can't imagine moving all the way up here, to a regular town on the road system, for that reason alone

I'm guessing that the OP didn't just close his/her eyes and point at a place on a map...other reasons probably exist -- prior familiarity, family ties, et al.

I wonder why some of you always make assumptions about people who post here. Do you honestly believe that everyone who expresses interest in moving to Alaska has no money, no job prospects, has never been to Alaska before and probably couldn't even find it on a map? In case you weren't aware, this is a relocation forum.

Tigre, I was typing to the others and not to you. You, at least, often exhibit signs of a brain on this forum.

Closer and cheaper...well, not everyone cares about expense, stiffy. Maybe they've got bucks and want to use them. Not everyone is wallowing in poverty, you know.

Any advice on how to make the transition easier would be welcomed.

Certainly. Your first bit of valuable advice is not to listen to the skinflints and the criers of doom who troll this forum. Ray in particular gets worse this time of year because he's anticipating having to pry some cash loose from under his mattress to make utility payments. Others, for whatever reason, obviously believe that everyone who wants to move to Alaska is fueled by empty pockets, desperate straights and probably outstanding warrants strewn across the -48.

You don't say how old the children are. Bear in mind that Tigre has a point; there are unsavory types of people in Alaska as well. The difference is -- and it's a major one -- that in places like Soldotna, Kenai, etc., you know who the bad guys are in a way that you can't possibly know in places like Phoenix. This alone is a great advantage.

Climatewise, of course it's going to be a big change, but you already know that. You'll be cold the first few months until you get used to it.

What, specifically, do you want to know about the transition?
