Well, technically mauvais means bad- being an adjective and all. Mal is an adverb, so it means badly. But...
As an adjective, mal means wrong, or even wicked. As a noun it means evilness. It's a very multipurpose word!

Xa'at feels your pain. Xa'at used to have long hair, and one day she got totally sick of it and went to that hairdresser place in the Nugget Mall because they were the only people who would take her on short notice.
Xa'at walked out of that salon looking like a member of the Beatles.
Xa'at was very unhappy.

Luckily since my hair has grown out and doesn't look nearly so bad. It does grow back, just remember!

Well, you did. We've all fallen victim to the mall salon....

But last spring I got this great haircut from this woman---best ever. So I went back there yesterday and she was on crack.
