You guys are great, such a quick response. I will have to get boots, my parka, etc. sounds like it will work out. I have a place to stay and appreciate the heads up on the food. I love to cook so will probably bring up some real italian things. I will be working, but am planning it around the race. Any info-suggestions about where to hang out, meet people is nice too. Thanks again! V

I found Glennallen to be an interesting place, with its own unique charm. One thing that endeared me to Glennallen was their anti-federal government attitude.
They wouldn't even sell a glass of water to the US Forest Service Rangers. There is still a lot of resentment over Congress expanding the size of the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. A lot of Glennallen residents lost land. ![]() |

How hard will it be to find someone willing to take me on a snow-mobile ride while I'm there? I am going on the assumption that people there are friendly as they are her in rural Ohio. Call me nieve, but I still believe in the be friendly to others and they will return the favor!

Alaska Snow Safaris Alaska Snowmobile Tours Or if you are really into getting a unique Alaskan winter experience give Adventure Alaska Tours a call for a 7-day Iditarod adventure, mushing your own dog team. ![]() Not that I don't have confidence in my fellow Alaskan snowmobilers, but going with a professional guide might be prudent even if you are an experienced snowmobiler. The professionals will know the terrain and the conditions better than your average private snowmobiler, and that means a safe experience. Besides, the professional tours carry liability insurance just in case something goes horribly wrong. ![]() The really nice thing about Alaskan winters is that the tourist number is much lower than summer, so you are far less likely to encounter anyone. Even the bears are in their dens for the duration. It is a great time of the year to find true isolation. |

I know a few people there but I would need to tell them a little about you, where you will be working and how they could get in touch with you (if possible) or tell me the dates you will be there and I will get back to you. Earls |

In the past 50 years Glennallen has done alot of growing! I lived there from 1951-1958 in what was then the Alaska Road Commission Camp. My first daughter was born in what was then, Faith Hospital. It appears the hospital is now the clinic? Does anyone remember Rev. Vince Joy, Rev. Tegler, Dr. Schnieder and Dr. Pinneo. Would love to hear from past or present residents .... Thanks.
