My friend and I are going to visit Barrow in mid-March. Since there is no tour from Fairbanks during winter time, we are planning to fly there ourselves and looking for the local tour company who can take us to Point Barrow. I have been trying to call Aarigaa 4X4 Tours (got the information from the forum), but no one answers the phone. Does anyone know any other local tour company that I can reach? Also, is there any chance to see polar bears around Barrow during that time? Thank you very much in advance.

I don't know when Aariga operates, they might be at Kivgiq this week or this might be their off season. Just keep trying them is all I can say.

There is a very good chance of seeing bears in March if you get the chance to go to the point.

One of the better places now that Brower's has been forced to close.

The successful whaling crews usually have Nalukataq around the third week of June. That would be a good time to visit.

You could probably get a taxi to take you out as far as the "Shooting Station". At least they used to. I've walked from there out to Point Barrow. I always had a firearm so I wasn't worried about polar bears. If you can't find a tour it might be worth it.

Regardless of when you get there, you will find a lot of people that will be helpful in giving you info on your time there. Even a taxi ride will show you all the spots of interest you may have questions with.

In March it isn't a hotbed of tourism, so I think you'll have a great time.

Good luck!

Come by the weather office when we release balloons(2am and 2pm). Some people come by so they can get a picture take of then holding and releasing the balloon. We also have an unrestricted view of the area since we are on the other side of the airfield and barely anything is built South of it.
