My daughter has a couple month job in Manokotak in August and September. We're trying to learn a little more about the town. Anyone have any info to share - good or bad?

Thanks,
Lucky

I've not been to Manokotak... But it looks like your typically Y-K Delta village. You'll get there by flying into Dillingham and then flying out to Manokotak on PenAir. It won't be cheap to get there.
If there's a store out there, then you can expect prices to be very, very expensive. $8 or $9 for a gallon of milk, hamburger meat at $6 a pound, $10 for a bag of chips.
People in the villages are generally very friendly.
I'm assuming your daughter's job is maybe something in the medical field? Is her employer providing housing?

Hello,
I lived in Togiak for three years, which is one village beyond KMO (Manokotak). The village is small, as mentioned, and wraps around a large hill that is fun to climb. The older village is at the base of the hill along the river, and further development, including a new school, wraps around south of the hill to a new runway. During the winter you can snowmachine to Dillingham in around 25 minutes, it is not very far. The people from KMO are originally from Kalukak, an abandoned village site between KMO and Togiak. The people are extremely friendly; some of the nicest I met in SW alaska. HOpe your daughter has a great time there and is able to get out on a boat!

i was wondering what they do in the summer, the show always shows the winter. and how they make the money for the boats, snow machines and 4 wheel drive vehicles they all have at least one of each.and can they grow any food and if they look for gold.because i don't think they can make enough money from just trapping to pay for these things.and how about the gas they use to run them it has to be at least 6.00 a gallon up there.does anybody know?
