Nice pics barnacle9! It looks like the bridge has been repaired. Is that a camp on the other side? Are there homes further down a ways?

Its an interesting story of when and how the rail line and bridge was built from the historic Kennecott Copper Mine in Kennicott to Chitina and down to Cordova. The highlight of my last trip was a memorable 3 days in McCarthy and Kennicott within the National Park. Thanks for posting these!

Nice! I say we have the prettiest road in Alaska, even if it doesn't actually go anywhere.

The bridge was fixed, there arn't any homes that I know of beyond it.

Bridge was repaired

No Homes

There is a campground just to left before reaching the bridge in the photo from the road - it recently underwent extensive upgrades - it is just across the river from the glacier, and in years past has been hit by waves over 40 feet high from large calving of the glacier

In the side view of the bridge (which was taken across the bridge from the campground), you can see satellite dish(es) in the lower left - this picture was taken from the rooftop of a lodge which a friend of mine has built but it has a ways to go before finishing. This past summer a film crew stayed there while shooting a documentary on extreme surfing - on glacier calving waves.

The history of the Copper River is quite fascinating, and all the more so in light of the extreme weather conditions which occur out there in winter.

glad you liked the pics
