Default ?'s about Soldotna

Hey everyone, I'm moving to soldotna right after thanksgiving and i had a couple questions. Well first I want to say I'm really looking forward to moving there. I always loved Alaska and this really is a dream come true. Well I have two daughters and I was wondering which elementary and preschool's are favored. We live in Missoula Montana so we do have cloths for cold winters, but is there any suggestions on anything else we should bring to prepare us for the winters in Alaska. any other advice on things to do, places to see in Soldotna or surrounding areas would be helpful. Thanks!

I'd have to say winters in Missoula are probably colder than Soldotna. Snow and rain are the norm for the Kenai. Tamps range from teens to 30's, and occasional thaws here and there. It does drift down into the negative numbers in later winter, but has as much inclination to soar into the 40's too.

School choices are limited due to a small population. You might have a couple of choices, but size and proximity are the deciders for the where the school district place a child.

Congrats! Soldotrna is nice. I live in Sterling only 10 miles to the north. My boys have been out of school a couple years now...but there are a handfull to choose from depending on your kids' grades. I believe there are 2 elementary schools, one junior high, and 2 highschools within city limits. There is the Kenai River that runs through town...so there is boating and canoeing there along with the mass amounts of salmon that run up each summer so fishing is big here. Soldotna is centraly located on the peninsula (sorta) and there are many trails to hike, lakes and rivers, fishing, hunting, skiing, snowmachines, or just driving and sightseeing. It might get 20 or 30 below once or twice in the winter...but never for more than a day or two. Here's a couple websites that may give you more info.
