![]() I do try to write down immediately story or song variations I think of folktales stuff like that. But have never really enjoyed writing on demand. It might just be a discipline thing. |

It's not discipline, and I can't "write on demand". I usually write at night, collecting my thoughts from throughout the day (I daydream a lot ) and spewing them out on paper. I'm not really that great, but if you'd like I'll share some of what I've written. ![]() |

My offspring and I are collaborating on a collection of stories that portray the peculiar intricacies of the lifestyle of the SE Alaskan logger species.

We get a lot of our inspiration from recording their conversations in cafes and so on.

Well, I did write a local color story about Juneau once. I scrapped most of it, because it sucked, but I did keep a bit. It had nothing to do with loggers, though.
![]() So, I've been asked to post something I've written. I'll leave it up to you guys, what do you want to read: 1. Comedy 2. Deep dramatic stuff 3. Clipping from the local color story ? |

Here's a bit of something from my favorite author:
Sunday, June 24, 2007 Prince of Wales Culture Blog I wish this could be a photo web log. However, my computer will not read my digital camera. I have some lovely photos I would love to put up here. I have a photo of an old abandoned camper destined for a scapp head. I feel that the photo captures the spirit of Prince of Wales Island well. This post would be all about that if I could get my pictures transferred from my camera to my computer. I don’t think I have much of anything relevant or original to say about small town life. That won’t stop me from turning this into a “Prisoner of Wales” web log when the time comes. Right now, I suppose I could say something about the gun culture. When walking the dog yesterday, I avoided the meadow I usually frolic in because I heard what sounded like gun shots coming from that direction. I was going their specifically to take pictures of a giant pile of tree stumps. I suppose that someday this could turn into a “Scared Landscape, the Consequences of Clear Cutting” web log. Gun shots are not abnormal on the islands of rural southern southeastern Alaska. Road signs at the out skirts are all peppered with small caliber bullet wounds. So close to Independence Day, what I heard could have very well been fireworks. But my instinctual reaction said gun shots. This situation made me very nervous. What rounded out my nervousness was my skewed perception of the mentality of whoever could have been doing the shooting. No doubt, local folks. I figured that anyone shooting that close to town, this was directly outside of the Klawock city limits, must be reckless. I like to generalize the people of POW as reckless. I like to think that many of the people that come to live here are looking to abandon something. Maybe, in Rural Alaska, you can abandon your modernity on the side of the road. Like the old camper. |
