I'm actually a bit surprised we came out quite that high on the list due to a couple of our quirky gun laws which I think they missed - "duty to retreat", "immediate disclosure", and lack of a specific "Castle Doctrine" - but hey, I'll take it! And the good news is that HB24 has passed the House and is up for a vote in the Senate. So maybe we'll be #2 next year!

Alaska is one of only a handful of states that do not require a permit to carry a handgun concealed. It has the second highest percentage of gun owners per capita—58 percent—of any state in the Union, and has no other restrictions on gun owners or ownership. Alaska has no specific Castle Doctrine law, which is the only reason it didn’t score a perfect 50.

They said that those issues were why we weren't in the #1 spot, but it was close and the State Legis. seems to be rectifying that from what I heard on the news last week. So we may be the top yet!
