The speed limit is way slower on the Loop compared to 97, if you take 97 you'll get to Fort St. John faster through Dawson Creek.

Also, if you need to get anything from Fort St. John you'll have to backtrack a few miles from the cut off to the city. If you like McDonald's, it also has the last one north until you get to Whitehorse. It's also the last place your cell phone will work from the states. Nothing on your phone until you get to Alaska.

I had to hit TOK before I got cell phone service in AK too... Not like you get across the border and viola!

The thing that irritates me is that there are towers, I had bars of service on the phone, just couldn't make a call...

I remember begging the restaurant in Chicken to use their WiFi so I could send a quick email to let my folks back home know I was alright, since it had been a couple of days since I last spoke to them. I went the long way around going to AK as I wanted to see Dawson City and Chicken.
