The bears patrolling the pipeline are extremely stealthly, and have been trained for years and years to eye any vehicle as a portable lunch box. They have a unique skill of removing the windshield with just one claw. They peel the rubber like a razor knife cutting paper. As they roam between strategically placed pork they can cover lots of the line in just a few days and Pork in bulk is pretty cheap security. In recent years the system has been tested by scientists doing other research, but wander into the bears domain. Recently there have been lots of windshields replaced. Now with the melting of the ice pack the Polar bear has been starting to do double duty at Prudhoe Bay and down to almost pump 2.

I have a healthy respect for God (as I know him), but deny anyone the right to proselytize in the name of the government, and hack a religious agenda into a constitution designed to prevent that very idea.

This country was founded on the principles of free speech and the right to worship (or not) as the person wished. This means that Yahweh, Allah, God, Jehovah, Buddha, or any of the nine billion names of God have an equally valid point of view.

Hijacking on of the 2 leading political parties for a fundamentalist Christian agenda makes that party no better than a fundamentalist party hijacking a political party in Iraq, Iran or any other Muslim country. JMO of course, but I think that this is a valid argument.

Have we reverted to the days of pre-WWII Germany to dictate to our fellow citizens on the basis of a minority worship of what is probably the same deity the majority of us claim to worship? If people want to get down and worship on a prayer rug 5 times a day, who am I to stop them. If they put offerings of whiskey and rice in front of a statue of the Buddha, are they wrong? If my neighbors treat me as a human being, I have nothing but a healthy respect for their lifestyle. It doesn't affect me at all.

Politics, try not to touch them but who can resist commenting on the insanity of the government.

Anytime I actually agree with something the government does I start to worry about myself.

I consider myself American too, what else, but hey that's the great thing about America we are allowed to disagree publicly and privately.

Question: Is being Alaskan different than being American?

I think being Alaskan is being a special sort of American. I do mean that as a compliment. I know there are all types of people everywhere but, it seems to me many Alaskans Don't live under their fear like many people do. They are independant, and willing to take chances, self sufficient and able to ask for help when they need it. Alaska is still part of the "Frontier" to many, you are still "pioneers" in a way.

Pioneer? I'm not that old yet, although some mornings my back feels that way. A pioneer to me is a elder who made a big difference to the state back in the day of pre-statehood days. Don't forget ever to help a elder when you see one in need and don't be afraid to hug or shake their hand.
