If you want to move all your stuff yourself, you can use u-haul. However, if the truck you use is over a certain width, height, and length, AMHS can AND will charge you.
Trust me, these are people who make you pay like three bucks for a carton of milk, they would not bat an eye at charging you +$2,000. My little fourteen foot suv is gonna be over 1,000!
By the way, I'm actually riding the ferry tomorrow, so I know these things.

Oh, sorry...
I left out the part about how AMHS has to charge us mucho buckeroos because Murkowskidiot slashed their funding while trying to promote his highway to nowhere.
Okay, now that that's out of my system... Bellingham is very nice. I haven't seen much since it's been dark since before I got here, but I look forward to spending tomorrow seeing it before the boat pulls out tomorrow night.

well, just be sure you grab your spot on the solarium quickly, and enjoy the 3 day ride. It's a hoot, and something everyone should experience.

Yeah, I've done it before. It's a lot of fun, for sure, but at this point I'm just ready to be home.

Moving to Juneau from Nebraska
Although I don't work in this field, it is my understanding from listening to local dentists that there are opportunities for dental hygienists.
Rentals are hard to find... nearly impossible if you have pets. I suggest you look at JuneauEmpire.com - Alaska's Capital City Online Newspaper to see what is available. If it's just the two of you, you might be able to find something for $1000 to $1200. There are less expensive units occasionally but rarely a really nice one for that amount.
Nearly all neighborhoods in Juneau are kind of a mixed bag. In my opinion, Lemon Creek is not the most desirable area to live in, but nothing in Juneau is far, so you could live in the Mendenhall Valley, downtown or on Douglas and still have no commute to speak of.
People are friendly and Crime is quite low
Well, you could probably make it on $70k depending on your lifestyle and debt load. With electric back down to say $0.13 per Killowat Hour, your electric shouldn't be too bad... though that would depend upon whether your home is all electric or not. I paid about $100 per month for lights, washer and dryer, hot water heater, electric appliances and electronics... and I wasn't trying to conserve. Heating oil is over $4 per gallon so try for energy efficient housing with mixed heating options.
Do you mind rain? If you do, think about this, it is a rainforest after all.
All fishermen love to talk about fishing, so just get them started and you'll hear all about it. I don't think there is a lot of fly-fishing close by though... mostly salmon, halibut and the like, from boats.

1. Are there many Dentists in the Juneau and the surrounding area, if so do they have positions open for dental assistants or dental hygienists very often?
2. Where are some good places to look for rental properties or apartments. I don't want to be in a dump, but I don't expect luxury. We are looking for a 2-bedroom in the 1000.00 range. Where are the best areas to look, worst areas to look, most affordable, most expensive, etc?
3. The Wells Fargo is in Lemon Creek, is that an ok area to be in?
4. How is the crime rate in Juneau?
5. How are the people in Juneau, laid back, friendly....???
6. For two people to live there and probably be flying back to the lower 48 a few times a year, both have student loans, car loans, etc., what would do you think a gross income a year to live comfortably should be? $70K, $80K?
7. Both of us grew up in the country, so we are used to the outdoors. But, are people around there helpful with fishing, hiking, etc. tips?
