I have some acreage being overrun with vetch or similar; it's doubled its area in the past two years - I'm talking at least an acre coverage. I was raking this weekend around the deck and began wondering why not let it take over? In southeast it's not undesirable; in fact, the battle is a hard one to win. Here, you'd think it would be too dry to survive but if my yard is an indicator of success, I think whatever is native and does well can't be a bad choice. Has anyone else come to that conclusion and let it have its way? I see no good reason to own a mower and haven't mowed anything in a long time, but I do use the weed-whacker on a regular basis to keep things from getting too jungle-like.

If you're talking about the plant with purple flowers that has a tendency to climb stuff (fences, trees, etc), then it's not native. It looks very similar to something that is, but the native species doesn't climb like that and doesn't have such a strong tendency to take over.

This stuff doesn't climb. I looked it up last year because I found it on my other property out toward Minto. It's kind of feathery, and doesn't climb. Aside from the bias against moss in a yard, it's rather attractive when you accept it.
