Default Ice Fishing

Hello again all,

Was just wondering if there is much ice fishing still happening.
I really enjoy fishing and need an outlet during the winter once I move there.
Are there good spots in or around Bethel?
How do I learn more about it?
(Any links or thoughts are appreciated.)

We do alot of it down here on the peninsula. I don't know of any links...but any of the tackle shops would have helpfull tips. I recomend an engine powered ice auger. Some of the lakes ices can get 2 or 3 foot thick.

We go ice fishing here on the Kuskokwim River. We fish for Lush(burbot) and Northern Pike. What you buy in the tackle shops usually don't work out here. Just go out and see what everyone else is using and go from there. The best bait for pike is a eye from another pike.

Thanks for all the info, folks.

Warpt, I was directed to the Tundra Medicine Dreams site by the Human Resources Dept. at YKHC, oddly enough.
Already read it in its entirety- an excellent site.
It is one of the main reasons I know that moving there is feasible.
Very good description of life in Bethel and the Bush.

Also, the movie was interesting.
Really gives you the feel of what is involved.
I really appreciate the effort.

Thanks again!
