I would also like to add just a little thought. I can not expect my surroundings to be responsible for my enculturization. It is an inside job. I have a copy of the complete works of Shakespeare (William), it does me no good if I don't read it. Plays, Opera, do not enrich me if I do not attend. If the limits of my friends conversational skills go only so far as to tell me how much they drank last night, I will probably not be enriched by their companionship. I believe it is one of the duties of friendship to challenge each other intellectually. Of course I am not above a good joke from time to time, humor is a great asset, I also believe that a sense of humor adds perspective to a life. Culture, as long as the majority is not in petri dishes at the local hospital, is it's own reward, worth the effort to gain it. D

All the friends we know (mostly boomers) that have moved to AK were more than happy with their decision. ALASKA is truly the last frontier and most of us are full of admiration for you who have braved it to go there and carve out a life.
