Default Wasilla Job Opportunity!

I have an opportunity to go to Wasilla for 3 months and sell advertising in a Local Page directory. All my expenses are paid and the commission is high. Is there anyone there that can fill me in on the amount of businesses in town? I do not want to set myself up for failure but the opportunity sounds wonderful. Oh ya, I am from San Diego, CA. Any thoughts from locals would be greatly appreciated!

I work in Wasilla and Palmer. But I don't know how many businesses are here. There are about 60,000 people in Wasilla, Palmer and surrounding areas.

Hey--check this job out real carefully. Jobs such as the one you describe are almost always scams of some sort. You'd be better off looking for seasonal work if you want to spend some time in Alaska.

I agree to check out the job more thoroughly. Is this a job for one of the local phone companies?

Are you selling yellow page ads?

Yes it is. The Company has been around for 10yrs and basically covers small cities... not just in Alaska. This just happens to be a 3mth contract thats up right now. From there I come back to CA and sell in Yucca Valley. I am just not familiar with the city (Wasilla) and if the potential is there. I am excited but a bit nervous. All my travel and lodging and food, car etc..is covered. But can I sell up in Wasilla???

Jewelboxed66.

If you have a good ongoing relationship with the company and you trust them to follow through on their promises, I wouldn't pretend to tell you whether it's a good deal or not, and I don't know how much in commissions you can make.

But....

I wonder why they don't recruit for these 'jobs' in the local area, seems locals would have a much better handle on the whole thing.

It's not like selling yellow page ads takes an exceptionally developed and specialized set of work skills, I just wonder why local companies and workers aren't doing this work.

I asked the same thing, and they said they have tried, however when sending reps out they found the revenue to be higher, that they simply went out there to work and come home. Where as when they recruited locally the sales were not what was projected.

I don't know what your sales potential may be, but there are lots of small businesses in Wasilla and the surrounding area. Wasilla and the Palmer area has had a boom in growth the last 2 or 3 years. Although the growth has been slowing some this past year.
