I love black friday. I have the day off, and I stay at home. Hate to let them know, but our brand new Walmart has nothing I need.

*Looks up from her late Thanksgiving Dinner*

I've never heard it called "Black Friday"... although the name fits.

it's called black friday because all the retailers (esp walmart, kmart, and target) make enough $$$$$ in one day to make up for serveral months losses, for some it's their entire year.
I wonder if it happens during a full moon, because most people go nuts today.

Black friday is when the retail sector goes from being in the red to being in the black on there balance sheet. It is strictly a business term that means the retail industry is making money, or in the black. For most of the year retailers lose money, up in to the Christmas buying season, then they turn a profit. In the past when a companies books were actual written ledgers the negative amount would be written in red and the positive amount, or when they made a profit was written in black. Now everything is done with a computer program, but the name has stuck, also the name of the Friday after Thansgiving, Black Friday.
