My family is thinking about moving to Valdez in 09 (military) He will have his electrical engineering degree complete that summer(undergraduate). Can anyone familiar with the area tell me if he would be able to find a job there in his field? We really want to move there and experience everything valdez has to offer but im worried he wont find work and I don't think a career gap of three years just after getting his degree would look to good. I like photography and it sounds so beautiful there, I really think our kids would love the fishing. I hope I hear good news from someone!

Thanks!

Try Copper Valley Electric Association, the local power coop for the Copper Valley region. They are always shorthanded for power plant operators and engineers.

Look at AT&T Alascom, GCI, and other Telecoms. but most of them keep their Engineer folks out of Anchorage. Also, with Alyeska doing the big OCC move to Anchorage, Valdez job market may change majorly. Also, if you're willing to work Pipeline/slope work, there's always stuff for people with Electrical Engineering Degrees.

Wow, Thank you for the replies. I appreciate it!
I'll probably have lots more questions but I will save those for later when it gets closer to transfer time.

Im in Sault Ste Marie MI right now. I have a little taste for not having everything everyone else has. This will just be worse! Thats ok though with us. Its only a 3 year tour and thats fine. I think the snow is double in valdez what it is in the sault but im just guessing that. lol.
