I have tentative employment lined up in Dutch Harbor. I am trying to figure out the most economical way to move my car, trailer, and a shipping container to Dutch Harbor from the Seattle area. It seems that the ferry from Homer is not in service until the end of April. Any advice or ideas would be very awesome. I'm sure there has to be some options out there that I haven't found yet. Thank you.

Northland probably won't be much cheaper but it would be worth the try. Have you been out to Dutch before? If you are paying for this move yourself you might wanna wait on shipping all that stuff until you find out if you like living out there. It sucks to move to some place remote like that and then find out it's not a good fit. Just food for thought. Good luck!

We have been to Dutch and fell in love. I agree it would be more economical to wait and take the ferry from Homer, but it sounds like the start date isn't negotiable. We may be receiving some moving assistance which would truly help. Now just trying to figure out the cheapest way to go this time of year.

I think the barge is gonna be your only option if you can't wait until ferry service starts back up. That's a tough place to move to with all the stuff you're taking. But since you've been there you know what you need to take for the lifestyle you want. If you could give us an idea of the shipping quotes you get it'll help other people that come along and make the same inquiry. Sounds like you've done your homework.

So far for northland, truck, trailer, and 20' container is 10,400.00. The trailer is 4900 The container about 2900. And the truck was around 2800. The ferry was about 2500 for both the truck and trailer. That of course doesn't include human passage

If you have time, there is a few crabbing boats that are still in Ballard Washington getting ready for the crabbing season. You may find one that will take it there for you at a reduced rate.

Just ask around or call the harbor master there.
