Yes, it's a pretty safe town. Sure they have there petty crimes but not a lot. Mainly drunks picking on each other. I hope the link is ok. It's for a local newspaper in Ketchikan. You can find links to the Ketchikan Police daily crime report on it.

Has the Ketchikan area started a spraying program?

It's been a few years, but we did some camping around Ketchikan and ended up hiding out in the tents for much of the day.

When one says mosquitos aren't as bad as Yukon Flats, that could leave quite a bit unsaid, no?

200 inches a year is just slightly more than the annual rainfall in our city (100-150 inches), especially ours are concentrated in summer, while Ketchikan has less striking monsoon season (there is, but the effect is much milder than ours) causing more evenly distributed rainfall throughout a year. (Peak at October and low at May)

But the Interior and Yukon Flats are notorious for its mosquitoes.

I strongly disagree with ketchikan being a safe town. i WAS Born and raised there. i may not be part of the older generation but i have seen and experienced much of Ketchikan. My girlfriend gettin mugged when she was pregnant and the muggers just continued to beat her in the stomach when they found out. Maybe im just blowing smoke here but i think it important that any one and everyone should be a careful in that town

Question Ionlimius... a Q for U...

Hello to Hong Kong! From your initial post, it seems that you are considering relocating to AK - is this the case? And if so, how did you choose KTN over other places in AK like ANC or JUN?

Just curious...

I am curious about the living standard of Southern Alaska communities, because they seem to be remote and liveable.
