So how far is the walk to work and how safe? Meaning from hospital housing to the new hospital.

You could always take a taxi to work.

We have two shuttles that run every 15 minutes so no need to walk.

It is. It's about eight minutes to get to and from work.

That is excellent. I watched a video and the person was worried about polar bears and wild dogs while walking from the airport into town, so that's why I asked about safety. I would have thought in a place that small and cold there wouldn't be much of a problem with stray' s or homelessness.
Can you have pets in hospital housing?

You can have pets in the older part of on-campus housing, not in the newer half. You can have then off-campus.

There are few, if any, stray dogs here and polar bears do come into town on occasion. We've had a few spotted in town over the past few weeks but they tend to get chased away fairly quickly, assuming they even make it off the beach.

When I lived in Barrow, several years ago, one Halloween small groups of trick or treaters had to be escorted around the village by volunteer Barrow Search & Rescue guys armed with rifles because there were so many Polar Bears in and around the village. During most of October that year there were a lot of bears. The most that I saw was about thirty just off the coast by the 32 units.

That same year several dog owners had empty chains when they checked on their dogs in the morning.

One morning when our assistant fire chief went to start his truck he noticed fresh bear tracks around his truck and marks on the side windows where a bear had been licking the windows. When he went back into his house to wait for his truck to warm up his neighbor called him to tell hem there was a polar bear sleeping under his house. He was a couple hours late to work that morning waiting for the bear to wake up and move on.

How adorable! Is there a rescue or sanctuary for polar bears? Can you see walrus or seals in Barrow?
