Hello I have traveled to Alaska and loved everything about it when I was a young kid and have always wanted to live there and now would be a good chance since I work with the union line construction so I travel for work and Alaska always needs line work done...any ideas of where to live? Log cabin with a little bit of property and maybe a river?

Thank you,
Cody

Line construction? Like this type of stuff: Alaska Line Builders | Home | 907.892.1550 | Big Lake, Fairbanks, Anchorage | Electrical Contractor

The MatSu Valley or the Kenai Peninsula would probably work. www.AlaskaRealEstate.com is the MLS website for most of Alaska. You can start your search there.

Line work, log cabin, and a river nearby? That describes every inhabited part of the state except Anchorage... (and maybe Juneau I guess) Hopefully that's good news, but do you have any other criteria?

Yes that kind of stuff and maybe I can get hired by one of those companies when I'm done with the traveling and my other criteria would probably be electricity and I would think a garage would make things easier also

Ah, a garage, so you want to be on the road system. It's not a given. Stafford's probably right, Mat-Su and the Kenai are good areas to start looking. Both have ugly, built up commercial strips, but with lots of backroads to get away from it on 1-5 acres, usually with long driveways in the woods, that sort of thing. Also check Fairbanks if you want "real summers" (as opposed to the chilly, drizzly weather of southcentral), and are willing to accept brutal winters. There's work in the smaller towns too, though job security is always an issue. From what I understand, line work in the really remote areas is done by folks working 2 on 2 off shifts (or something similar). So you spend two weeks at home, and your company flies you out to work two weeks straight wherever you're needed. Might be an option. The money's good but it's hell on families.

I've already provided the link for Alaska Line Builders.
Hot Wire lays wire I think: Hot Wire, LLC - Commercial Contracting Services: Hot Wire, LLC
The Alaska Power Association has some employment listed: Employment Opportunities, Job Board | Alaska Power Association
It seems like there's another company I've seen... But I can't think of their name.
