How have the temps and weather been in Alaska this winter? (Fairbanks: 2014, home)

Don't know how you people handle All that cold weather. Beautiful state Alaska is. How long did it take to get used to the climate when you moved there ? Does the weather bother you once you are used to it? I checked Fairbanks temps and it seems they are about the same as the upper northeast in U.S. Is it a mild winter there?

Do you generally come down with colds more or less in Alaska vs other continental states or where you lived before?

The last few weeks have been very, very, very unseasonably warm.
But, even in a normal year, places in Montana, North Dakota or Minnesota can get as cold as we do (at least here in Southcentral).
Weather doesn't bother me... You just get out and enjoy life. The only thing I do hate is the winds we get here in the Valley.
Like I said, there's plenty of places that get as cold as we do, and plenty of places that'll get as much snow as we do. The thing here is just that winter lasts longer. But for me it makes summer all that much sweeter.

What cold? We had a bunch of record high's the past couple of weeks. Yesterday's record was broken, it hit 43 degrees. The trees have no idea what is going on, they're budding in the end of January!

So there should be less chance of "catching a cold there", like as in not feeling well because of less people right? As long as you dress accordingly for the weather? Sometimes those arctic temps when it gets super cold can knock you on your butt I bet if you are not ready. When it is windy it must be the worst. Does it get windy much?

I saw a movie about a fifty something year old man that built his own cabin there. It was pretty amazing how self sufficient he was. Built his home and lived off the land. Must be a few mountain men out there capable of that. Do you know the movie by chance? It was a documentary type movie.

Yeah, I really enjoyed watching the series on TV. Don't think I could do what he did, as much as I have the desire to.

the weather doesn't bother me, I have always been used to the weather as I was born here, The weather can get bothersome if you are not properly dressed and are going to be doing an outside activity or standing around but once you move your body heat usually helps out alot.

I very rarely get sick I was sick in November and before that it was probably a year ago. I did know a girl who would almost always get sick in the winter though.

Seriously this morning as i walked home from work it was positive 7 degrees and i took off my jacket cause i was sweating. I guess once you acclimate to your regions temperatures your body does not like drastic changes.

I sit inside typing this and scowl at my indoor temp gauge debating if i should open a window...

I don't think it's the cold as much as germs that cause colds in Alaska.
