Yes, specially on vehicles with traction/stability control. Studded tires (or chains) also reduce the length of the skid, at least until the ice building-up in front of the stud or the chain, covers the stud or the chain.

What I like about stability control is that it helps you steer the vehicle in the middle of a skid, as long as there is "some" tire traction.
