I know, was joking around. Saw on tv a bunch of people taking a snowmachine tour of Sweden. I'd love to go over to Europe one of these days. Only country I've been to is Canada, 13 times.

Sweden is spectacular in the summer months. It will have a whole new look in the winter. Only 26 more days and I am on my way.

We used to say that about Texans before and after the pipeline.

The Army tends to send troops from Alaska to Texas as part of their rotation. Mainly to thaw them out!

If the Alaskans are 30 or younger I would suspect they are military. 50 or so are probably snow birds.

slight digression here, back in the 60's the national guard was well known as the place rich kids went to get away from the draft, if your daddy was not a captain of industry or a politician there was an extremely slim chance of your getting in. The most memorable battle for the National Guard was at Kent State University. My parents were not rich, I spent time in the USMC in the 60's, I had both good and horrible times, a normal situation for warriors. I understand that, by now, this has all changed and the Guard is now a real and active military unit, I wish these modern warriors all the best. But,... back in the sixties, Texas also grew at least one yellow politician.

In my opinion, the only true "Alaskans" are those who were born in Alaska and those who live in Alaska year-round. Everyone else is a tourist.

You clearly need to read up on the history of the National Guard. They have fought in ever major foreign engagement the US has been involved in since the Mexican/American War. During WW I the National Guard made up 40% of the US forces fighting in Europe. Your denigration of the National Guard is clearly based upon ignorance.

Texas wasn't the only state to grow a yellow politician, check out Massachusetts and Arkansas

I wholeheartedly agree that the National Guard has been an effective fighting force, and today is continuing with their proud tradition, but....I was speaking specifically of the 60's when it became a safe haven against the draft, an entirely different organization at that point in time, I stand by my statement.
