Default Do any Alaskans leave from Oct.-Mar. to southern states to escape the cold?

I live in Texas and I noticed three Alaska license plates today which is VERY rare. I was wondering if Alaskans are becoming "winter Texans" or at least I have never seen any before for a long period of time and at a high number. It is not just those three I have noticed alot of Alaskans around this year.

Has a couple relatives living in Austin, they love it there. Theres a few families here that go down to Arizona and a few that go to Hawaii. I've often thought of this, but the money here is too good. I have 34 more states to visit in the Lesser 48, one of these days I'll see them all.

They grow yellow roses there, too, from what I hear.

Back in my younger days I used to winter in Arkansas. Mostly because I had a good construction job there. I had a roughneck on my crew that lived in Vegas and I went down there for 10 days one time. It was 30 below in Anchorage when I left, 70 above in Vegas, and was still 30 below in Anchorage when I landed 10 days later. This year...I'm headed to Sweden and Norway for 2 weeks at the end of this month. Thats right...I'm flying half way around the world to vacation in an identical climate as Alaska!

Yes. It is so similar to Alaska...it's actually just like being at home. Especially when you get above the Arctic Circle. But yes they do get snow. They even had a villager get mauled and killed by a bear a couple months ago. CD member Sweden lives at the same latitude as Kodiak in southern Sweden.
