Just curious I have hauled water before I had my well installed in northern Arizona and on the cold mornings it freezes up. How long do you have to get the water back home before it freezes up in the middle of winter, say if you're hauling it in the back of a pickup truck? A lot of the properties up there in my price range seem to be in water haul areas, seems like it might be complicated when its 40 below. Do you heat the tank somehow?

27.5 minutes before it freezes solid. I usually put 6 of those big chemical hand warmer packets inside the water tank. That'll keep it from freezing for about 8 hours.

Keep the tank and pick-up in the garage get water dump it right away. I use a plastic valve if it is stuck use a heat gun for a while. no big deal.

How often do you need to get water? How difficult is it to melt/reheat it if it does freeze before you get home?

I have 28 gallons, haul it about twice a week. It's not too hard to thaw it out, just set the jugs by the heater. But these are 4 and 5 gallon jugs not bulk water. But I don't let it freeze as it is hard on the jugs.

Like stiffnecked said above...you can slip a couple of those little hand warmers in the jugs, even if they have started to get slushy, and that will certainly keep them from freezing solid for at least an hour. Get the bigger ones and you'll buy yourself even more time.

Good luck.
