I think:

1.) Fairbanks
2.) Juneau
3.) Valdez
4.) Homer
5.) Barrow

I like Haines and Seward.
The view from Homer is nice but Homer itself it not mind-blowing.
I think the area outside of Dillingham is probably the prettiest, but once again, the city itself is not the attraction.

Each area of Alaska has different climates, and different views.

I wouldn't call Barrow "Pretty", but it also has it's draw as well, but for different reasons as do all the towns you mentioned. When it rains day in and day out, being in Juneau isn't a bag of roses either, but when the sun comes out, it is outstanding. Valdez is a very pretty place as well, but when you get dozens of feet of snow each winter, some folks start to really freak out when the snow flakes start dropping. Summers in Fairbanks is great when it is in the 80's and their isn't smoke from forest fires, but at -60f in the winter, you start to rethink what you can handle.

Basically, you need to visit them and see what works for you.

What areas I like may be totally different to someone else.

I can only speak to the summer and cities I saw.

Kenai is in a gorgeous location, the beach there is really nice. Looking out over the mouth of the river from the bluff and seeing seagulls harass bald eagles at eye level feet away is very cool.

Seward is pretty with mountains rising up around it on almost all sides.

I thought Ketchikan was pretty and it was the only SE town that wasn't socked in when I was there - I only saw it from the ferry terminal.

As far as buildings I thought downtown Palmer had some cool looking older buildings. It had a bit more character architecturally (though it's small) than the other towns I spent time in. I would guess Juneau and the other SE towns might be nicer in this regard but I didn't see them.

Homer would round it out for me. Beautiful views, beautiful food.

I have to say, as a New Mexican who has spent a lot of time in Albuquerque that Anchorage has a very strong Route 66 vibe to it. It really reminds me of the part of Alb that was developed during the 60's and 70's which is along the old route.
