You got that right, especially since Alaska is a protective barrier between Russia/Asia and the West and PNW coasts of the USA!

Default Reality between Reds versus Blues

From a social psychology perspective, it's interesting that the real rightwing conservatives beat their chests and call for forming their own countries because liberals have ruined their country. Yet, when one looks at charts for productivity, most liveable communities, and economic success, it is the Blue states doing well while the Red state are in stagnant poverty, requiring the financial resources of the Blue states, via federal dollars, to stay alive. Alaska is no different. Without federal largesse, Alaskans would be dead in the water.

Also, the most authoritarian aspects of federal and state governments come from those on the political right. It is conservative proponents of an authoritarian government who've rolled back civil rights and undermined the free press, not liberals. It is conservatives who've most supported laws responsible for locking up so many thousands of Americans who are not actually predatory criminals in any sense of the word. Liberals fight against that sort of authoritarianism because they feel threatened by it, and are threatened by it, as do anti-government right-wingers. Nevertheless, rightwing conservatives blame liberals for their perceived loss of civil rights and protections.

Facing that reality as well as the economic reality of which group is actually the more productive and economically successful, there is a growing sentiment among the citizens of Blue states to support the rightwingers seceding. They seem to feel rightwing conservative states are a stone around their collective necks. If that ever happens, the new neighboring country will be filled with exploitable people, because they will be so poor, uneducated, without many choices.

It won't happen, of course, but it's interesting that secessionist types and conservatives in general in Red states hold this unfounded belief that their lives have been damaged in some way by liberals and Blue states. The facts just don't back it up. Something to think about when beating the chest and waving the gun, is that those "*******s" might grow more anxious to be rid of them.

I say we still need the oil, and can't let Putin get his hands on it.

We should just secede Wasilla to Russia!

*LOL - I really should have thought about this post yesterday (April 1).

Not exactly. Without the federal government, Alaska could develop its own resources. It has enough of them so that it could probably survive on its own for a few centuries or so.

You sure about that, pretty sure Alaska and Texes pay more than they take in in terms of federal taxes on oil. Also States like Arizona supply power to LA. Northern cali (more repulican) and Colorado (just recently Blue) supplies water to LA.

I agree places like massachuteses and silicon valley have high tech industry and great universities (cal tech and MIT) but just because those places exist there does not mean its becuase of liberals, thoese unis have been there for a long time. Just because there are pockets of greatness and wealth in the midst of all the liberal loons does not mean that the liberals are the ones contribuing.

In fact I have heard that Cal tech and JPL now have to be barracaded in because there is so much poverty around them, it is a beautiful campus amongst poverty which was brougth by liberalism.

The proof that this statement is totally false is that in none of the conservative controlled State Legislatures which are presently very active passing all kinds of laws controlling voting, contraception. food stamps and other rights, and in none of them have any laws been passed to change any of the laws he mentions that are "making life hell for a lot of men." Does anyone think the conservatives would miss any liberal programs in their haste to deny civil rights to any they oppose?

Being able to take someone to the cleaners in court is not civil rights its legalized extortion. Even in "conservative" states im sure there are alot of women that like their alimony or bloated "child support" checks every month along with what ever other boon they got in the divorce.

Just look at the Palins, I think Sarahs daughter gets something like 5k a month because her ex used to model in play girl, I some how doubt the court modified it much since then. Women like those pay checks comming in for doing absolutly nothing wether they are "conservative" or liberal. That is why I am a libritarian but I know that will never happen so the short answer is to learn russian.

Civil rights has almost become a euphomism for a one sided court system and legalized extortion. Men being able to beat their wives ended a LONG time ago.

I would not miss a single liberal program which is why I have no issues traveling to russia.

You put a ring on it and had kids... You didn't get a prenup signed. And regardless YOU are responsible for raising YOUR kids. Next time don't put a ring on it and don't have kids...

I hope that you don't think fleeing the country is going to get you out of paying child support. It will get you extradited back to the US and in prison for a bit though...

I do feel bad and don't think it is right for the guy that was a sperm donor and has to pay child support, because the Lesbian couple broke up and one of them applied for welfare. He signed away all his rights to the kid, but the state is still going after him for support. The reasoning is the couple didn't have money to go to a fertility doctor, so he just gave a sample and they did the fertilizing themselves. Courts opinion was that how do they know they didn't have sex. Apparently, the difference is the method of getting pregnant. He lost round 1 in court... Waiting for round 2 (Court of appeals)

Looking at an old chart circa 2005, Alaska was #3 for receiving more money from the Federal Government than it receives. It doesn't mean that AK can't survive on its own, just means that right now it is getting more than it gives as most red states in 2005 did.
