Well said. Hunters have done more to protect the habitat of the game they hunt than all the other evironmental organizations combined. It is in our best interest.

IMO, the idea is for hunters and environmental organizations to work together for a solution that is in everyone's best interest. I think it can be done.

I support the rights of hunters. What I don't support is needless killing and/or extermination of species. There are folks out there who would like to get rid of wolves entirely. If that happens, Alaska would be like the lower 48.

Well they made headline news on tv this morning. Whining and crying about how they were attacked by wolves.

Nice thought, but I just saw the video off cnn.com and they were jogging on "Artillery Road"...I've never been stationed in Anchorage, but that sounds like a military cantonment area. Out in the boonies on military land...big frigg'n deal. Next to/on a post proper, good way to be in front of a fed magistrate if the 19 year old nervous MP that arrested you doesn't shoot you first (think Mayberry...golly a Glock).

Guess they are going back to the sidewalks in their community or to the treadmills like all of us in Interior have to because of the weather. Now, guess they might still encounter that pack on their sidewalks (have no idea what type of community Eagle River is)...running with a Glock shoulder holster or IWB is not *really* fun. Guess they can become true Alaskans and just stop running...if blubber is good for whales, it can't be all bad can it?

Okay, off for that other Alaskan pasttime...coffee.

Wow, yes, the story has been on TV for two days now. Those women in the story were so frightened. Can you imagine that one "almost" had to give up her dog to get away.
The thought of that is mindboggling........unthinkable, Whew.........
Now they have said this might come to be common with the wolves now.
I guess then, one would have to carry a gun, especially if your a jogger.
I think I might jog inside from now on.
It seems almost a necessity to have a gun with you at all times up there.........
The girls were brave and knew to walk backwards and not run, bless them........
( they were so far from their car!)

I have to say,

People take their dogs out, and then they freak because a wolf or a bear shows interest in the animals.

I wonder if these same people would tie a 20 or 30 pound 'pet' sea bass onto a leash, and take it swimming with them in an ocean environment where sharks are.

I'm guessing they would, and then they'd want to kill all the sharks in the ocean.

I admit, I don't get it, so you might to explain (if that is a dig on my sleep patterns, seven to eight hours is quite enough--thanks though).

My explanation is--besides my loving coffee and having my own pump espresso machine--Alaska (at least Fairbanks/Delta areas) is one of the few places that truly loves its coffee--Pac NW is the other that I've seen. Most other places Outside like coffee, too...but you're not going to be finding drive through espresso shops EVERYWHERE...including British Columbia along the ALCAN?!! What the hell...but they have Tim Horton's where you can get a chicken breast sandwich and the side will be a...donut. WTH?

Okay, I know I digress. I was sorely disappointed and still feel the need to vent sometimes Got back to Fairbanks and its assorted independent coffee shops and all was right with the world again.

Sorry for the thread drift...context is always hard via the Net. Now, your context?

Did those women have multiple interviews that were aired? The one on CNN did not have them making any such assertions. Did you see something from one of the local stations where either they stated such or the anchor inserted their personal view?

Otherwise, one of those women could just as well been my wife (rather conservative--ie less government, more personal choices/responsibility, rather good shot with a relative plethora of rifles and pistols, and has a pretty rational/logical head on her shoulder). But s*it does happen and that is what happened to those women. They WILL be more aware of their surroundings now. But I didn't hear a one of them complaining as to "why doesn't the Government protect me". If they did somewhere else, I'll gladly bad mouth along with everyone else. Point me to it.

No, it can't be done because these so-called environmental organizations (i.e., Sierra Club, National Wildlife Federation, The Wilderness Society, etc.) want to abolish hunting altogether.

I don't know anyone in Alaska who wants to "get rid of wolves entirely." That is pure fiction used to incite over-reaction for the purpose of abolishing all hunting and trapping of wolves.
