We moved to Palmer, Alaska from Texas last August. Our son was enrolled as a freshman in Colony High School. We have leased a home since our move here but our lease is about to expire and we've been looking for a house within the Colony school district and/or close enough to drive him there. Unfortunately, the home we had a contract on, they found problems with the septic system and now the deal may fall through. And we're not having much luck finding another home suitable for our family.

anyway, back to the topic at hand, we really hate to make our son change schools next fall, but if that was our only option, which schools have parents and students been happy with?
so far I have been satisfied with Colony. The teachers and faculty seem to really care about the kids.

thanks so much for any feedback!

Get a boundary exemption and you can live anywhere in the matsu and go to colony. Just won't have bus service.

Get your boundary exemption form off the Mat Su Schools website or click on the link and mail it to Colony high or hand deliver it (the Colony administration and secretarial team is in the building through early June). If you can't hand deliver it, just mail it to the school and it will be reviewed at some point before the start of school in August. I can't speak to whether the form will be automatically approved, but priority is given to a student who has been at Colony.

If it was my child, I would hand deliver the form ASAP to ensure that I'd know where my son would be attending school come August 14.

Colony was recently rated as the top HS in the Valley by US News & World Report using five key academic criteria. Colony also is great about keeping theirhomepage
up to date with important dates, deadlines, announcements, etc.

I've had one child graduate from Colony and plan to send two more through the Colony Schools (we've got a sixth grader about to start at Colony Middle) and I've appreciated the high standards in both academics and athletics that the school upholds.

I have been really impressed with the programs at Career Tech.
Mat-Su Career & Tech High / CTHS Homepage

If it was my kid, it would Career Tech or Colony.

Alaska Middle College looks interesting too: Alaska Middle College School / Overview
