Thanks for all the good info and the not so good info. My son doesn't really have limited driving experience except for the snow. He has had a permit or license for almost 2yrs now. I truthfully wasn't thinking about the weather there at the first of April, just trying to figure out how to get 2 cars up to where we are going to meet hubby in Fairbanks. I may just leave 1 in Seattle with a relative and go get it later in the year.
As for the insurance. I called the main part of Allstate not just the local person and they told me there was no such a thing as an insurance card for driving through Canada. Is there a proper name for this darn thing? I perfer to have all the proper paperwork when we get there and if it might take some time to get the info. I want to start now. |

HOLY Smokes what a name.
Ok so I just got off the phone with the Consulte's office. And according to what I was told was that NO my son couldn't drive on a restricted. They said they only honor regular drivers license for people that aren't residents of Canada. So that answers that. |

You can always talk a friend into driving your second vehicle instead of doing the drive twice. But then if you do have to drive it twice, you know what to expect the second time around and see different parts of the highway that you missed when you drove up the first time.

I don't have anyone that can afford to take that much time off from work. We will just have to either store the auto at a relatives in WA or sale it.
![]() I have tried several main offices of Allstate insurance and several agents and NONE of them seem to know what I am talking about. The one I just spoke to said that those cards stopped being issued in 6/2006. So I don't know what else to do,but worry until we get there and see if it is ok |

When are you moving again? You can drop it off in Seattle and have it barged up to Alaska. The prices are decent and they can ship up to Anchorage or Seward for you. Most companies ship twice a week to Alaska year round.

....but one of them said they stopped issuing what they didn't know anything about in the first place? Excuse me if that sounds, maybe, unreliable or possibly illogical......... . . ...and you had a Consulate person on the phone, but didn't ask them about whether you needed the insurance card? I'd be calling them both back. . .. |
