You've missed what the discussion was about.

With 6 days off, one can drive a car around the highway system... and while the scenery is indeed nice, it is not vastly different than what would be seen in 6 days almost anywhere in the Lower-48 in terms of unique qualities.

But get on an airplane and fly from Anchorage to Alaska, and those 6 days will be an experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the US.

I don't disagree with you on that, but English Nurse's post included a comment about driving as far as possible and then hiking out to her property from there, hence my statement that flying is the only practical way of getting there...which would also give her far more time to enjoy the "real" Alaska than spending most of her time driving around...

We know that because a guy in Vermont is an "Arctic Homesteader", and a guy in Wasilla is a "fault", and they posted it on the Internet, so it has to be true.

The irony in all of this is just overpowering...
Well put!

Might add that much of the remote places in Alaska are not easy to access with having to cross massive tundra/bogs that you can stand up in and still drink water. That doesn't include the rivers, glaciers, mountain ranges and a host of other oddies that will stop 99% of even the toughest out there.

Come to Alaska as Floyd said and fly for even a day and you will start to see the vastness that is unlike most can even grasp.

Stupid typo.

Cut me some slack, I was carrying on a few conversations at the same time when I typed that...

I hate grammatical and spelling police on line. Mainly because my hands are too slow for my head and my fingers are too fat for the laptop. And my spelling skills are stellar and my grammar is as perfect as Sister Mary Gerard and Sister Ann David could make them.

Of course, Sister Mary Gerard was of the opinion that left handed children were the spawn of the devil. Hence my moniker located below my name.

A very scary woman, that. Sister Ann David was my second grade teacher, and in 1961, she had all the boys in 2nd grade in her classroom, listening to the World Series on the radio. She also taught us the Notre Dame fight song. A real boys nun. I loved that woman, even though I was only seven.

Sister Mary Gerard was a terror, three-sided ruler and clicker in hand.
