Well, alternative definition here, it is the rise and the run of a line expressed in Cartesian co-ordinates. Rene Descartes, a lot more than "Cogito Ergo Sum!"

That link was helpful.

I take it when peple say they are working the slope this is where they mean?

Where do these workers live when they are there? In those little towns? Company housing?

Most major companies have "man-camps". These contain a number of small 1 and 2-man rooms, communal facilities and a cafeteria. The food on the slope is usually very good to excellent. Normal meals include prime rib on Sunday, a steak night, Fried Friday (shrimp, seafood, etc), and the dessert bar is usually pretty good (excellent, but as a short guy with a degenerating metabolism, I NEVER visit dessert bars, unless they have brownies (every day) or chocoate cake (almost every day), danish (every day), I NEVER, EVER visit dessert bars - really!) There is usually a small fitness facility as well.

Working on the slope is like being in jail. Very remote. Basically stuck indoors during winter. Not much to do after work other than workout (not me) or watch tv. Some work 1 week on 1 week off. Some 2 and 2, some 3 and 3, some even more. You can do good money wise as there are no bars, no fuel or groceries to buy. It is rather scenic in the summer when the tundra flowers are in bloom, but can snow in July. There are no trees which really get's to me more than anything.
