Thought I'd make an album here on Ravins. They're such survivalists.

nice pics. you have to give them credit, besides being total characters, they do winter out with us.
juneau has to be the raven capital of the planet at times. BTW, it amazes me that we have to remind visitors that ravens are protected by law, at least here they are. (no private ownership of ravens as pets, don't feed the ravens, etc.) |

We used to moor up in Seldovia on our boat. We once accidentally left our bucket of herring out on the deck. Man, we will never do that again. It looked like some scene from a horror movie. Blood and guts all over the boat, including the bow where they dragged the herring. It took us a while to clean it all up lol. Lesson learned...we never left them out again.

Taken by the News-Miner webcam, these Ravens at 10:30 AM one day last week are polishing off some pizza.

RavIn, ravEn, tomatO, tomAto...
Funny how stuff like that slips past you when the fingers get flying.I'll second that on the ones in Juneau, I think the biggest raven I've ever seen was horking down frenchfries at a McDonalds parking lot there. The thing was so big it looked like it could give an eagle a hard time. ![]() BTW, the most effective raven attractant known is an unprotected Hefty sack full of garbage lying in the back of a pickup truck. ![]() |

When we first moved up here, our first trash load was too big for the cans. Of course, we put it out in the big contractor hefty bags. And of course, the ravens came, an unkindness of ravens is the term, I guess. And naturally, they were unkind enough to scatter styrofoam peanuts, wrapping paper, and assorted trash around the cul-de-sac. Lucky me.

Biggest raven I ever saw was perched on the corner of my truck bed in the A&P parking lot in Juneau. He was eagle-sized at least. As I walked to my truck, he just kinda looked at me as if to say "this is MY spot..."
