Question Teachers

My husband and i are both teachers in the state of Texas. We were told about some government program in Alaska .. possibly in Nome where the government was basically paying for people to come up and teach. The govt would pay for water and heat and what not... I am not sure of all the details.. does this sound familiar to anyone at all? Also, is the median cost of living pretty high up there? Does anyone know if there is a need for teachers? or psychologists? Im pretty interested in alaska... thank you very much! Hopefully I will hear back from someone!

Your teachers, do some research. Nome is a nice town, cold in the winter, awesome in the summer. I lived there for a couple of years before getting transfered.

Think they are doing research by posting here. Not a bad idea to find someone with 1st hand knowledge (ins and outs that the Government doesn't explain). fwiw.

Naw, this isn't research. Real research would be to pick up the phone and call them. That's why I put the link up so they could find this phone number.

You might want to look into teaching in the Lower Kuskokwim School District, based in Bethel, Alaska. Bethel is south of Nome. This would be for the adventurous, only. This link will take you to a video and their Web site:

Are either of you certified in Special Ed? There is always a shortage of special education teachers here.

Are either of you fluent native Spanish speakers? Anchorage School District needs bilingual, bi-literate Spanish teachers in immersion programs.

thank you for your help... I would like to let stiffnecked know that I am not an idiot like he seems to think and i did do more research... this website is actually just a secondary form of research... i logged on and posted here while waiting on a call and email back from people there in Nome. Thank you for your inconsiderate response.

Pretty harsh there Williams. You come here asking questions, people go out of their way to help and you say that to him? Yup, Alaskans are looking for professionals like you. Come on up and burn more bridges.
