Default Fine dinning in or around Anchorage

Rank the best restaurants in and around Anchorage. I'm talking not Lamex, Garcias, or franchise type establishments. I'm looking for a dinning experience featuring gourmet food prepared by a real chef.

Thanks!

Simon & Seafort, between 4th and 5th streets on L makes excellent gourmet fish dishes. But the best restaurant in Alaska definitely has to be the Seven Glacier's on top of Mount Alyeska in Girdwood. Officially it is rated 4 stars, and serves excellent gourmet meals. The Double Musky (also in Girdwood) is supposedly rated 4 stars as well, but it is primarily a steak joint and does not serve anything that can be called "gourmet."

Is House Of The Lords Restaurant still around in Anchorage? It was a very expensive but great place to eat back in the early '80's. My wife and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary there. The food and atmosphere were outstanding, but pricey. The table napkins had our names printed and things like that, there was a bottle of champaign at the table, and the chef would come right to the table to cook portions of the dinner.

Club Paris, Glacier BrewHouse, Orso, Simon & Seafort's, Sullivans, Marx Brothers ... all very nice. But the best restuarants aren't necessarily the nicest or the finest. The White Spot hit the 'spot' more often than the expensive places.

My vote is for Marx Brothers Cafe. Don't let the Cafe part fool you. They do offer a true comprehensive dining experience in an intimate setting. The food is excellent and the wait staff know what they're doing right down to the smallest detail.

Yes, it is one of the better ones. The only one better I know of so far is in Orange County, Ca.
