They would make a good necklace. I wonder if they make nail clippers for bears instead of killing them, knock them out and clip them off.

While for the most part I agree, I believe there are situations where you have a 'situation' through no fault of your own. Weapons cannot make up for a lack of common sense. But neither can common sense alone solve every problem you might run into. Sometimes you need to have the right tools. |

That's what all those with smashed thumbs thought when they went to get their hammer........
Speak with the people who are trained in providing bear protection and they'll tell you, most folks only make things worse by taking a gun into a situation they're not trained to confront. Start looking at all the bears needlessly wounded and killed each year, and it doesn't make any sense to promote more guns carried by untrained individuals. . .. |

Lots of outsiders don't have a healthy respect for the reality of bears and their capabilities. Until you come up on a print and are knocked silly by the pure size, then it really starts to hit you. I knew a guy who was soaking bear claws in bleach (to do what with I don't know and I never asked how he came about them). I was floored at the size of the claws. Truly amazing and horrifying. Really. You hear stories all the time of idiots walking in the woods, they come upon a cub, and want to pet it already....

Starbucks was running a tv commercial during the holidays....it's a cartoon....shows a girl walking/hiking in some snow-filled countryside, and she comes upon a bear, on his hind quarters, and they both stare at eachother for a while, and she walks up to it and hugs it. Maybe offers it a latte. I thought "Oh great. THIS is all we need." No doubt some idiot would try this...or maybe this bright idea came from an actual story.....but I couldn't imagine the marketing tactic...you know...the conversation... brainstorming this idea around a table or pitching it. Hugging bear cubs? Yea, no duh!
