I know it's hard to answer but how would it be for some one to live on 3700, I think thats the rate for Palmer, Achorage etc. when in training. Agian I now it's diffirent for every family but I have a wife and young daughter, and my wife would hopefully get a nursing job there quick. I just want to make sure they would be able to have a place and enough to live on.

Your not going to want to move your wife to Sitka during training. You'd just have to up and move again. If your wife is a nurse she will not have any problems getting a job. My wife is also an RN and the recruiters are always calling. I'd wait until you get through the academy before I had her move anywhere. Your first assignment could be in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Palmer or maybe even Ketchikan or Juneau.
Have you applied and been accepted yet?

Good to hear about the nursing. I havent applied yet because i want to get 60+ college hours and I have to leave in Febuary for 6-7 months to train down in Georgia, so I want to wait til I get back.

if you're serious
If you're serious about joining the troopers, don't let your physical conditioning slip too far. Their academy has a reputation of being a fairly tough one, fitness-wise.
I'd also agree that nursing is one profession where you'll never have a hard time finding work in Alaska, they're always advertising for positions.
I'd say that you're probably better off contacting current members of the force to get the real skinny about postings after you graduate. My source of info (a neighbor of mine) has been retired for quite some time now and his info may not be applicable today.
