Lightbulb .... End of April Visit ....

Good morning all, I am a member from NYC ... Been to Kenai peninsula 5 years ago, beautiful and Juneau for a week last year [rain, too long] Anyway I'm thinkking of visiting Homer, Kenai, Soldotna for scouting mission last week of April as it is extremely cheap to visit and I get to see minus the crowd .... Wunderground temps average mid 40's, what it is here now .... Is trip advisable or maybe too rainy, cloudy, snow etc. ? .... Eager to Return, ... Thank you, ..... Patrick G PS -- Hello, Rance & Metlakatla, always look forward to your posts !

There will probably still be some snow on the ground the last week of April. It is hard to tell just yet, we have had very little snow this winter thus far, but March is typically a big snow month, so that could change. Temperatures should be in the upper-20°Fs at night and low-40°Fs during the day. You will be about a month too early to find any fish in the rivers. Tourist attractions that close for the winter will still be closed. But on the bright side, you will be here about a week before break-up when everything turns to mud. Spring is the ugliest season of the year, imo.

Suggest you go later if you possibly can. I have seen nice April's but not many. Very often at that time of year there Breakup is underway and it can be pretty muddy. A month later would be much better for you.

Any time is the right time to visit the Kenai! And as I have yet to buy any visiting members a beer...you could very well be the first!
