Smile from VA to AK in Jul08

Hi all,
Husband just got word that we are leaving Ft. Lee and coming to Ft. Richardson in July 08. We have 2 boys (7 and 9), a schnauzer and a bearded dragon. I am a K-12 school counselor. We are hoping to get on post but if not, will have to rent. I have no idea where to begin looking for a job or a place to live. I'm a FL girl, so all of that cold weather is buggin me out; however, we are all excited about moving. I've only heard great things about AK. If anyone has any suggestions about:
*finding best homes to rent that are close to post (with good elem. schools)
*which areas would be best to move in with children
*how to begin looking for a counseling job (or a job with any MH agency until I can get in the school system)
*vets and groomers for the pets
*what school systems serve the area
*how is the weather in July
I would be grateful for any other words of wisdom that anyone thinks would be helpful as we plan this cross country journey!

Anchorage School District has a web site, and may be able to help. Eagle River is probably your best bet as far as home location relative to the post. A plethora of pet vets in the area. July is about 17-18 hours of daylight and 60-70 degree temps are average.

Have fun, it'll be the move you look back on as the best thing the military ever did for you and your family.
