I agree that there seems to be alot of negativity. I've been lurking here for only a couple of days and I hope this is just a coincidence that the people who live in or have lived in Bethel are very negative. Yeah I'm one of those idiots who thinks they want to 'move to Alaska and live happily ever after'. I have done alot of research on Bethel and yes it sounds almost depressing, but change is what I'm looking for and sounds like I'll get it. I am having a difficult time finding any housing. I am single late 40s and a nurse. Any suggestions? (other than don't do it)

Never go by what bad things people say about Bethel. I grew up here and lived here all my life. All you have to do is have a open mind and a good sense of humor and you'll be fine. People who have negative posts about here are ones who burned bridges here and never made any friends or that took on a job and got fired or didn't get along with co-workers. A lot of people here don't like it when a new person comes in and wants the whole town to change on their behalf. It doesn't work that way. Go with the flow.

That can be said for many of the small towns in AK. We get a few of those even in my area where town is really only 10 miles away! What I can't figure out is...if they want Starbucks and Walmart and HomeDepot so bad..why don't they move to town to begin with? Why move to the country and complain about having to drive 10 miles to town? At least here you have the option to drive to town. Many places don't offer that luxury. In reality...I think many have no idea what they want.

Hello Bethel residents. I am coming to Bethel this Tues/Weds for a visit from South Dakota. Any suggestions? I am open to any remarks, advice, observations, or anything you can think of in reply.

How long do you plan to be there?
Have you checked weather.com? How are you getting there, and will you have someone to drive you around? What is your purpose in being in Bethel and are you asking for info from that perspecive? |

You are going to miss the finish of the Kuskokwim 300 sled dog race. The leaders should be in tonight sometime. Over the past two days we had a big melt down. Water everywhere. Its cooling back down a bit from yesterday. Can't think of anything going on this week. What brings you to Bethel?
