Kenai- I've made up my mind
well part of it anyway. I am going to take my income tax refund this year and come to the Kenai area. Hopefully nothing comes up that will require the money. I need to get there at this point, I think of nothing else and Rance's pics make me want it even more. Hopefully I can get there in May or June, I am crossing everything. Please wish me luck in making this happen and hope that there is a big drop in airline prices (yeah right) just so I have more money to look around with. and settle on an area. I am trying to get hubby go out without me and take a summer job to get familiar with the area but no luck yet. Anyone know of a good place to get a summer job cooking? I think he would do well in a lodge or something like that.
Thanks,
Faith

Hi Faith,
I live in Kenai, so I'll try to help ya out. My husband and I do not work in the cooking industry, so I don't know of anything off hand, but you could try the local paper, I think it is on line at peninsulaclarion.com. Also, you want to look on the state of alaska site for jobs at jobs.state.ak.us. This is the slow time of year for job openings, you should see it ramping up for summer in March and April.
Good luck!

There are many lodges on the Kenai Peninsula. Many along the Kenai River starting in Cooper Landing and down toward Homer. And across the inlet. Heck just try googling Alaska Lodges.

All I can say is WOW you must get a ton of money back on your taxes. To be planning a big move with only that to back you.

13 years ago my husband and I drove here from Phoenix with our 1 year old son in an old Chevy Nova with our tax return. Only about $2000. We had a place to stay but no jobs....
We had decided there was no better place to raise a boy!
Worked out fine! Follow your dreams!

I WISH I got that much money back in taxes. I still have to wait a little over a year to sell my house before I can move. I am going to come up to visit, have hubby get a a job and established and then come out next year after I sell the house and have some cash. With the bit of savings I have I am going to use taxes to get my tickets.

Thanks for the words of hope kelly. I often take trips with no money and enjoy myself. I went to NY/NJ in 2006 with a hotel room/ bus ticket and 100. I am hoping to have taxes form next year as well as money from the sale of my house (if the market hasn't fallen out completely bythen). It's a small house so I shouldn't have a problem selling it. Great location, nice neighborhood.
