Was stationed in Alaska (Kodiak Is.) in the 1980s when I was in the U.S. Coast Guard. What a lovely wilderness!! Was there for a Kodiak winter, warm and drizzly. Made it to Anchorage as well, a nice modern city. It surprised me to learn that people out away from the city in remote places actually have water trucked in and have holding tanks in the ground below the frost line. I guess the tundra does not allow a well? Was impressed when arriving at the airport, the grizzly standing on its hind legs greeting me and that HUGE king crab. During the winter the sun seems to rise just above the horizon and travel across from about 11:00 to 1:00. LOTS of beautiful wilderness and wildlife. The Bering Sea can get quite rough at times, especially on a 180' buoy tender that floats like a cork. Anyway, Alaskans, not licking your boots. Just telling you that you have one hell of a beautiful state and should be proud.
