You know, I've always wanted to be a fish. Not sure about a mermaid, though- they're too mainstream. I think I'd want to be a seahorse, living life in the slow lane anchored to an errand strand of seaweed, simply waiting for the currents to blow something interesting my way...
I'd have to be a temperate seahorse, though. None of this tropics for me.

I for one have been thinking of late what a detriment to my community it would be if they built that blasted "road to skagway". As a fellow off-the-roader, how do you feel about it?
Most heavily on my mind, however, is the fact that my damn printer does not feel like printing today. In fact, it's never really had a mind to do anything but sit there and blink its little green light, which does not jive with me. First, the cartridge got stuck, and now the drivers won't work...

I can't speak for Skagaway, but I can offer my perspective as a Cordovan.

A road could offer many things, such as cheaper prices, more tourism, and simple accessibility.

But,

with these things comes the downside of these things - with cheaper prices come more people who do not care about the community - they are just worried about their ability to live here

with more tourism comes more garbage and more crime - we like to have our heaven to our own, and tourism ain't going to pay the bills in a way that would benefit us.

With simple accessibility comes the ruin of the character of a place like Cordova - isolation is a major charm

Yes, that's exactly it. I feel like we have enough tourist invaders spill off the cruise ships every summer, I can't even imagine what it would be like with a road.
Besides, what would Juneau be if you could drive to her? She would lose her mystique, her sense of adventure. She would become, dare I say, ordinary. Without a road, things cost more. But I think the benefits of relative isolation far outweigh any potential gains from the building of a road. I agree wholeheartedly with the bumper sticker...

Want more roads?
